The sun was shining brightly on the crisp evening of Sept. 21 at Deussen Park as members of FFA gathered for a special event – the FFA Ag Olympics. It was a day filled with excitement as the event had a unique twist, as it welcomed not only the seasoned FFA members but also the newcomers, referred to as “greenhands.” To distinguish themselves, the greenhands proudly wore crisp white shirts, symbolizing their fresh start in the FFA community.
“It’s events like the FFA Agriculture Olympics that remind us why we love being part of the FFA family. The fun, the laughter, and the sense of togetherness—it’s all here,” Channing Arkless, the FFA Student Advisor, said.
The event kicked off with friendly competition as members formed teams for some spirited games of volleyball, flag football and many others. After the games, the aroma of brisket and pork wafted through the air. It was time for them to eat, they gathered around picnic tables, members chatted and enjoyed the food, strengthening the bonds that make FFA so special. After their satisfying meal, it was time to highlight the greenhands who had recently joined the FFA family. As they stood together, a sense of pride and unity washed over them. This was their initiation into a community that values growth, learning and agricultural excellence.
But the fun was far from over. In a playful tradition, the FFA officers lined up behind the greenhands, each armed with bags full of colorful chalk. What happened next can only be described as a burst of color and laughter as the officers “bombed” the greenhands with the vibrant chalk. It was a moment of pure joy, symbolizing the warm welcome and inclusivity that FFA offers to all its members.
As the day drew to a close, tired but content, FFA members departed with memories etched in their hearts. The FFA Ag Olympics had not only been a day of games but a celebration of the FFA spirit that makes them such a great group.
