Girls basketball season is underway. The girls started their season off strong by being the Beyoutiful classic white bracket champions. The Bulldogs made it to the championship game but fell short to the defending 6-A champions Clark Cougars.
This year, the team is under new supervision. Coach Donald Ott takes over for former coach Carlesa Dixon after six seasons of being at the helm. Ott has been in the coaching profession for 24 years. This season Ott plans to implement new strategies and “wrinkles” to help his team succeed.
“I am very excited for this season,” Ott said. “We are constantly working on getting better and taking the season one game at a time.”
Last season, the Bulldogs made a run for state, falling short in the semifinals. The team is looking to go all the way this season. Ott guided his previous team, Cedar Park, to a 5A state title last season. Ott is looking to bring his championship experience to the Creek to continue the winning tradition.
“There is such a rich history here at Summer Creek,” Ott said. “I feel honored to be able to continue the tradition.”
The girls went on to win their bracket at the Beyoutiful tournament. The tournament had over 32 teams, and high competition.
“It was a big tournament with lots of competition,” Ott said. “To win our bracket and go to the championship game is a huge accomplishment. We learned a lot from the experience.”
The main focus of this season is the growth of the athletes. There are a lot of moving parts, and the girls and coaches want to grow their talents as much as possible.
“I am looking forward to seeing the growth of the athletes,” Ott said. “There is so much talent on this team and I am excited to work with them throughout the season.”
