A chemistry class is typically home to different types of complicated experiments and important calculations but today Mr. Gabriel Garcia’s class was home to a classic campfire tradition.
As a fun way to pass the time after reviewing for the AP test, Garcia had his students roast marshmallows over Bunsen burners for a lesson in thermodynamics.
“We were learning about endo and thermic energies because we’re learning about thermodynamics and how that connects to when you roast marshmallows,” senior Samantha Rogers said.
The students seemed to have a really good time with it, not just for the marshmallows but the on-hands practice it offered.
“I definitely had a good time, the s’mores were really good,” senior Trey Hebron said. “It was helpful to relate the s’mores and making them to the actual lesson at hand.”
This is the first year Garcia has done something like this, but he is considering to repeat it with future classes.
“Everybody loves s’mores,” Garcia said. “[The reactions have been] very positive, they’ve been throwing marshmallows at each other all day.”
