The cross country team plans to head into this season with determination, and confidence to help them succeed.
The team already has history behind them, but they’re not just thinking about the past. They want to continue building the school’s legacy.
“We want to be remembered as a 3-peat winning team which has never been done before in our district,” Ervin said.
Of course, the season isn’t just about trying to win every race. The runners also care about what they leave behind for the team. They want to keep improving themselves but also make sure the younger athletes can carry it on after them.
“Growth and maturity of the athletes passing down the baton for the generations,” Ervin said.
Every good team faces challenges throughout the season. Summer Creek knows their toughest battles won’t always be physical, but mental.
“One of the biggest challenges this season is overcoming mental battles because we don’t want any panic attacks on the starting line,” Ervin said.
That mindset is something that could give them an edge. Many athletes say running is just as much mental as it is physical, and Summer Creek is preparing in both areas. If they can balance confidence, health and focus, they’ll be tough to beat.
With strong goals, back to back district titles, and a determination to grow as athletes, Summer Creek Cross Country is set on making this season one to remember. Whether it ends with another trophy or with lessons for the future, the team already seems ready to leave their mark.
