Students are being affected by the new tardy rule implemented this school year. The new rule is that instead of the previous four tardies that a student could get before consequences, students are now only given one tardy before consequences. With the growth in student population and traffic on main street and other hallways, students feel as if this rule isn’t fair.
“I feel like the Summer Creek hallways are very crowded,” senior Isaiah Limas said. “I support the one way hallway rule in the senior area but I do feel like it also could be a waste of time”
In some areas, there are now one-way hallways and stairs in order to control the traffic in these hallways. However, this causes some students to have extra minutes added onto their walks to their next class, causing tardies to be easier to get.
“I also feel like the new tardy rule is a little unfair because with the one way hallway rule, I think it causes a lot more people to be late,” Limas said. “Also only one warning before you get detention is a little bit extreme.”
With the new students and growth within the school, students have trouble getting to class due to the amount of students in the hallways. This makes students feel as though the new consequences to tardies are unfair.
“It’s kind of hard getting to class because the traffic is so bad,” freshman Arian Gonzales said. “Now with the new tardy rule I feel like it’s too strict because the hallways are really hard to walk in.”
