Summer Creek’s edge Amontre Harris was recently awarded the Touchdown club of Houston preseason award. This award recognizes players located in the Greater Houston area before the season begins. His senior year seems to already be off to a hot start.
“It felt good to get recognized for my hard work,” Harris said. “I plan on winning another one in December.”
Harris was a part of Summer Creek’s 24-25 dominant force who came short yet another year, only this time in round five against the Vandergrift Vipers 34-31. Vandergrift would later go on to win the State Championship against Southlake Carroll 24-17.
With the dismissal of defensive line stars Josiah “Tank” Pratt and Chad Woodfork who Harris lined up with, it’s now up to Harris to get the defensive line fired up this season.
“Although we lose the strength Pratt put in the middle, guys like Senior Brinley Tita and Senior PJ Cormier are really good replacements for those key pieces we lost,” Harris said.
Going into this season, Harris was named one of the four captains to lead this year.
“I’m ready to go 16-0 with my boys, and I know that I’m the right guy to lead them to the promised land,” Harris said.
Going into his last year, Harris is aware he has to give it all he’s got. He’s made it very clear that a State Championship is something he wants to have, and this is his last year. Winning this award is just one of the few outcomes of the hard work he puts in.
“You have to work,” Harris said. “I promise you hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Summer Creek matches up with Shadow Creek Sharks, August 29th, 7 pm at Freedom Field. Where Harris will display his talents to get another win over Shadow Creek.
