Club president, junior Amara Ferguson, continues the legacy of the K-pop club. Going on its third year, the club was made to help students connect with others who share the same interest in K-pop.
The club’s opening meeting for the year was held on Sept. 10 in the school’s library. Amara was motivated to be the new leader of the club thanks to her past experiences with K-pop.
“I heard a snippet of a BlackPink song when I was younger, and it intrigued me,” Amara said.
Little did she know that moment would set her current decisions in motion to carry the club. However, the origin of the club goes deeper than Amara’s personal experience, according to the club’s sponsor, Mrs. Jadira Bernal.
“I used to be a media specialist at a middle school, and my daughter is a huge K-pop fan. She listened to it a lot, went to a lot of concerts, so I got into it too, then I came to Summer Creek, where more students were into it as well,” Bernal said.
According to Amara, the the club was created for the sole purpose of connecting with others through the music they love.
“We plan to allow others to make friends through their interests and explore more K-pop,” Amara said.
For those interested in joining, the club is open to anyone and meets Wednesdays after school in the library.
