Now a senior on the field as a football manager, Jaylah Howard started out in her sophomore and junior year unofficially helping out Ms. Bridget Daly.
“I’ve officially been a manager just this year,” Jaylah said. “So one year.”
With senior night football coming up on Oct. 31 against Kingwood, this will be Jaylah’s first and last high school senior night where she will be walking down the field.
“Low key, I’m excited, but it’s a bittersweet moment,” she said. “Just for the fact that one of these games could be my last football game as a senior. So pretty sad.”
With multiple offers from colleges such as LSU, Jaylah is keeping her decision under wraps until Halloween. Wanting to major in journalism, with hopes to be a football manager again in college, this position paves her way into knowing more about the environment on the field.
Leaving her underclassmen, she sets an example of what a football manager should be because this role teaches her professionalism and responsibility.
“Just have a free schedule and have an open mind to like to talk to new people,” Jaylah said. “And it’s going to open new doors for the fact that it’s a male predominant sport.”
Starting out only as a helping hand, Jaylah is now ready to take on the world around her with the manager role in her back pocket.
