Affleck’s Flicks: Night of the Living Dead

Cayden Affleck, Reporter

Hi, my name is Cayden Affleck and this is the first of my movie reviews, Affleck’s Flicks. Each week, I’ll review one movie, varying between genres and sometimes relating to a theme. Throughout the Halloween season, my reviews will center around horror movies, such as ghost movies, monster movies, body horror, psychological horror, slashers, and for today’s purposes, zombie movies.

I think almost everyone has seen a zombie movie before or has some knowledge of them, otherwise, I don’t know why you would be reading this. Anyway, there are all kinds of zombies, slow, fast, dumb, intelligent, and in the case of today’s movie, the classic zombie. Slow, stupid, weirdly strong and groaning all over the place, it’s the old-fashioned zombie that everyone has come to know. This kind of zombie and pretty much any variation of it root back in the 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead, directed by George A Romero. When this movie was released, it absolutely terrified people, the scariest thing they had seen at that point was Psycho. The blood, the brutality, the really boring news reports, it was all too much. For us now though, it’s not that bad, except for one scene that is just crazy but no spoilers. Scroll on for what I liked and didn’t like about the movie.

Pros

Short runtime

Good performances

Zombies look like zombies

Characters, especially Ben, are good

The music is insane and adds to the movie’s atmosphere

The kills in the movie are pretty cool I think

Cons

What is Mr. Cooper’s deal, like actually what’s his problem?

Barbara will really get on your nerves throughout the movie.

WHY SO MANY NEWS REPORTS?!?

Rating for now: 7.5

Rating for when it came out: Probably like an 8.5 or a 9
