Girls Basketball preps for season ahead
October 25, 2022
Many Summer Creek Bulldogs are counting down to Saturday, Nov. 5, for the first varsity girls basketball game. This will be a non-district game, but the Bulldog fans are ready to support their team against Bellaire High School. This will be an away game, but still try to show your Dawgs some love. The first home game will be Tuesday, Nov. 8, against Cy Springs High School, so make sure to come and show off your school spirit.
Girls varsity basketball coach, Carlesa Dixon, has been preparing her team for the new season.
“A lot of running and a lot of conditioning,” Dixon said. “We were in the weight room getting stronger, faster, and trying to build team chemistry right now.”
While some key players graduated, several are coming back, Dixon said.
“From last year I would say our senior post Jorynn Ross,” Dixon said, adding that Ross just committed to Pepperdine University. “She will be playing there next year, so she’ll take on a big responsibility for leading the team. I would also say Torran Deterville. She’s just a spark we always needed and she always is in the right place at the right time. She just does well for us.”
Coach Dixon is counting down to the upcoming season. When asked what team she is most excited to play this upcoming season, she said “all of them and every last one of them.”
Her star players are also looking forward to season ahead and have their own goals.
“Winning district, of course, and going back to state,” said Deterville when asked what she is most looking forward to. “We are not going out like how we did last year. That was sad.”
Ross agrees.
“I look forward to bonding with my teammates and probably getting better with my teammates. I’m also looking forward to getting a championship,” Ross said.
Go DAWGS!!!
