The varsity boys’ basketball team has been working hard during this off season. They have been preparing themselves mentally and physically for the upcoming season. The team has been playing scrimmages all summer preparing themselves to work together because there is a whole new team this year. This year’s team has mixtures of different talents and grade levels that will make the team dynamic great.

The first home game will be Nov. 29 versus Port Arthur at 7 p.m. If fans really want to catch some preseason games there will be scrimmages here at Summer Creek on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. and also Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Ryan Croy, Summer Creek Varsity Basketball coach said, “We have been preparing since this summer, working hard in the off season so we can have a successful basketball season. We believe that working out with everybody is the culture of our program.”

The varsity basketball team holds old and new players this season.

“We have many returning varsity players: Darius Sullivan , Cameron Patterson, Kyle Morgan, Andrew Rose and Corey Nichols,” Croy said. “We also have a few new additions to varsity as well: Bryson Wheatfall, Jacob VanNostrand, Davin Cross, Sean Jones and Jordan Brown.”

There are a lot of competitive high school teams this year and Croy is looking forward to playing them all.

“We have a competitive schedule every year,” he said. “We want to play tough teams to prepare us for what we see down the road in the playoffs. We want to be playing our best in February and March. We have one of the best districts in the state.”

Senior players Andrew Rose and Kyle Morgan both have been busy this offseason.

“This offseason I worked on my IQ and ball handling leading up to the season because I knew how much my team was going to need me to handle the ball,” senior Andrew Rose said who is most looking forward to playing Beaumont United.

Morgan agreed as he also worked on ball handling this offseason before adding who is the most excited to play.

“The teams I look forward to playing this season are Atascocita and also Beaumont United,” he said.

New teammates on the varsity team are sophomore Jacob VanNostrand and junior Jordan Brown. Both of these players bring many new talents to the team. Jacob VanNostrand said,

“I think I’m bringing outside shooting as well as leadership skills to the team,” VanNostrand said. “I am looking forward to playing Kingwood, Atascocita and Beaumont United.

Jordan Brown agrees.

“This offseason I worked on my IQ and ability to affect the game in many ways,” Brown said.

This season is going to be one to remember. Go Dawgs!
