The Summer Creek Bulldog football team will face the Katy Tigers this coming Friday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. This round 3 playoff game will take place at Turner Stadium.

The Bulldogs advance to round 3 following a 36-20 victory over the Shadow Creek Sharks in round 2, which ended their competitor’s undefeated season record. Principal Brent McDonald, who can be found on the sidelines of countless sporting events cheering on the Bulldogs, is thrilled with the outcome.

“[Shadow Creek] played nobody this year and they finished 11-1,” McDonald joked. “Hopefully they enjoy turning in their uniforms next week.”

The players themselves are also proud of their performance in round 2.

“I feel like we performed well as a team,” senior wide receiver Melvin “Cory” Nichols said. “Everybody doubted us, but we came back and showed them they were wrong.”

For Nichols, the game’s highlight was the last drive, where junior running back Lloyd Avant secured the victory.

“I feel great,” Avant said. “We came out here and did what we had to do to get the dub.”

Varsity football head coach Kenny Harrison is excited for his team, especially the senior players.

“The class of 2023 has done a tremendous job leading our football team this year,” Harrison said. “I feel really good and happy for those guys for fighting hard tonight and coming out with a victory.”

After coming out on top in this “Battle of the Creeks,” the team is looking forward to taking on unfinished business in round 3.

“I’m happy, but we’ve got a lot of work to do,” senior quarterback Jahrik “JJ” Jones said.

Last year, the Bulldogs suffered a narrow loss of 31-34 to the Katy Tigers during the quarterfinal playoff round. The team hopes this year will be different.

“We’ve been looking forward to playing Katy since last year, so this is a great opportunity for our guys and we’ll be up for the challenge,” Coach Harrison said.
