Student to perform his own screenplay of ‘Tarzan’

Sophomore Jay Shoemake, an avid actor and writer, will perform in his original screenplay of “Tarzan” this weekend. Opening night is on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center in Humble. Tickets are on sale for $20. Other shows will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb, 19 at 2 p.m..
This screenplay is the first one Jay has written.
“I have always loved ‘Tarzan’ as a kid. Phil Collins is an absolutely legendary composer and lyricist,” he said.
The cast and crew have been working diligently to bring the audience a stellar performance. Rehearsals were held on Friday and Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. During this time, the actors learned the vocals, characterization, choreography and more.
“My absolute favorite moments of every show are always character photos and the promotion shoot. It is so surreal to see everyone in their costumes for the first time, ” he said.
