Last August in 2022, the Summer Creek Bulldogs came four points short from a 1-0 start, losing 28 to 24 to the Klein Cain Hurricanes. Since then, Summer Creek has been waiting to have their well-prepared rematch against the Hurricanes themselves.
“There was 100+ offensive down played on each team that game,” said Coach Jeremy Justice.
This season, on Aug. 25, in the Bulldogs territory “Turner Stadium,” the Hurricanes will be coming all the way to Humble to attempt to beat Summer Creek for the second year in a row. The common questions asked are: Why not join the Bulldogs and Hurricanes at Turner Stadium Aug. 25? Will Summer Creek redeem themselves? Or will Klein Cain secure a win again?
Everyone from Summer Creek’s football team will have a chip on their shoulder. The seniors are coming into this game knowing it’s all or nothing this season.
The star seniors this year are three-star running back Lloyd “two five” Avant. Lloyd is currently committed to Tulsa University. The star tight end Kordell Rodgers is also a senior and he is committed to Texas Southern University where he will be joining his former Bulldog teammate, Roryion “Ro” Richardson next year. Captain Jaylen Carter is also coming into his last year. Xaiver “Deebo” Atkins is a huge transfer from Louisiana. The five-star is currently undecided but has many options going into this season including LSU, Texas A&M, Colorado and many more. The wide receiver core is extremely powerful when talking about seniors Caleb Welch and John “JJ” Jones leading the pack. With the departure of Coach Cleveland, Coach Davis and his well-experienced receiving core will create problems for the 6A defenses all year.
When Coach Kenny Harrison spoke to the class of 2024 he stated his “gift to them would be beating North Shore and Atascocita in the same year.”
With the intense class of ‘24 with ‘25 right with them, there will be a lot of excitement for Creek fans this year.
Many people, fans, scouts and anyone may wonder, what has been Summer Creek’s preparation for this ‘23-’24 season? How many new coaches? Are there transfers? Let’s start with the two superstar transfers. We’ve already briefly discussed senior Xaiver Atkins but we have not discussed Atascocita transfer Kaleb Walker. The 6-foot-four transfer who played tight end at Atascocita was added to Summer Creek’s powerful defense when changing to defensive end. Only a junior, he currently sits at no offers, but is expected to gain many throughout the season.
There have been two coach changes since spring ball with coaches Hurts and Cleveland parting ways with Summer Creek. Quarterback coach, Coach Focke was hired last spring and has been around helping his quarterbacks such as Tristan Sanchez and Blake Dickerson. New wide receiver coach, Coach Davis will be filling Coach Cleveland’s spot. This is expected to be a huge season for Summer Creek, starting off with Klein Cain.
Everyone should stay tuned for August 25 at 7pm for the Summer Creek Bulldogs vs the Klein Cain Hurricanes. Both teams are extremely prepared, may the best team win.
