The Summer Creek Bulldogs start their season off 1-0 defeating the Klein Cain Hurricanes 28-21. This game can be seen as the Bulldogs returning the loss the Hurricanes gave them last season. Summer Creeks’s star mentions of the game were Lloyd Avant, Blake Thomas, Kordell Rodgers and their starting defense. On Klein’s side, the star mentions of the game are Jaelon Dixon, Max Hendrick and Isaac Mooring.
The player of the game was Summer Creek’s running back Lloyd “two five” Avant. He ended the game with 35 carries for 232 rushing yards and two out of Summer Creek’s four touchdowns. This being Avant’s senior year, he did not disappoint in the first game. Senior TSU commit Kordell Rodgers had seven receptions for 52 yards on Friday. The junior Blake Thomas who usually plays wide receiver was at quarterback with Tristan Sanchez being out currently. Throughout the game Thomas was running all over the Hurricanes’ defense. He ended the game with the other two touchdowns for Summer Creek’s scoreboard and had 109 passing yards with a 61.9 pass completion. By no surprise, the Bulldogs powerhouse defense showed up on Friday and helped Summer Creek’s offense complete the 1-0 start. Star linebacker Xaiver “Deebo” Atkins seemed to be having a lot of fun in his first game in the state of Texas.
For the Hurricanes, junior running back Jaelon Dixon had two touchdowns himself with a total of 77 rushing yards. On the receiving side, junior Max Hendrick had 90 receiving yards and one touchdown. He also produced on the special team side with 32 return yards. Last but not least for Klein Cain, senior quarterback Issac Mooring had a productive game himself. He had 314 passing yards with a side of 18 passing yards. He threw for one touchdown to receiver Max Hendrick as previously mentioned.
In conclusion, the Bulldogs were able to defeat the Hurricanes despite what happened last season. This win does not mean the Bulldogs will take practice, weight room and anything else lightly over this win. Head coach Kenny Harrison has already stated to his players his primary focus is on North Shore, Atascocita and Katy. People that know Coach Harrison would probably say this win will make him push the Bulldogs even harder to prepare for the teams previously stated. Next on Summer Creek’s road to state list is the 0-1 Clear Falls Knights. Clear Falls is coming off a loss to Pearland 45-41. Call out who you think we will this time around on September 1st. Are you with the Bulldogs or Knights?
