Typically dogs aren’t allowed in Turner Stadium. However, there is one exception. This dog holds a special place in all of the hearts of the Summer Creek community. It’s the mascot, the Bulldog.
Senior Mark Lincoln wears the bulldog mascot uniform this year. He went through a simple tryout process in order to gain the honor.
“I walked in and played some custom music,” Lincoln said. “I had to act out to show my school spirit and energy.”
Bulldog pride is always on display at Summer Creek at pep rallies, sporting events and in the hallways. The Bulldog is an expression of pride and symbolizes strength, courage and loyalty.
“Having a mascot expresses how we as members of SCHS feel at games but through the perspective of the school’s symbol,” Lincoln explained. “It is really fun to hype everyone up in the stands.”
Being the bulldog mascot is a privilege. Lincoln believes that “ having a mascot separates good school spirit from great school spirit.”
The mascot attends most sporting events. He can be found on the sidelines throughout the games with the cheerleaders.
“Right now I am attending all of the football games, home or away,” Lincoln said. “I will attend basketball games when the season rolls around. I also attend pep rallies and am in hype videos.”
The mascot impacts the entire community, including the siblings of players.
“It is really rewarding when little kids come up and ask for pictures,” Lincoln said. “It makes them so happy.”
The mascot is a strong symbol of Bulldog pride. It brings the students, staff and community together.
“Being the mascot creates a sense of security in the program and a sense of completeness. I am really happy I am the one who establishes that,” Lincoln said.
