Hey everyone, I’m gonna try something a little different with my movie review this week and talk about all of the movies I watched last week. All of them happened to be animated or have animated characters which was kind of weird in retrospect and were all just around 90 minutes but anyway.
The first movie I watched this week was Paddington. If you haven’t heard of Paddington, it’s about a marmalade-loving bear from Peru named Paddington who comes to London and is taken in by a family named the Browns. It’s one of those movies where it’s just a good time watching it, like, there’s no way you’re mad watching it. Paddington is just a nice bear who gets into hijinks around London and it’s just a really good time. I’d say it’s pretty funny too. It’s not groundbreaking or anything, but it has a very cheerful humor. The movie is on Netflix right now so if you’re interested, I definitely recommend it! I wish I had more to say but you should just go watch it if you have some time for just a fun movie, check it out.
The second movie I watched this week was The Iron Giant. This movie is set in the late 1950s in the midst of the Cold War, which greatly affects the themes of the movie, and is about a young boy named Hogarth who finds a ginormous robot and teaches him about Earth. This is just a really good animated movie and might honestly be one of my favorites. It was made by the director of both The Incredibles and Ratatouille, Brad Bird, and those are two of my favorite animated movies too. The main draws of this movie are the comedy and story. First, it’s a really funny movie. It has a ton of good jokes in it that mainly comes from how the Iron Giant adapts to Earth and government agent Kent Mansley, who’s after the Iron Giant. Then the story is done really well and really engaging. It’s got some more emotional parts too, but it all mixes together well. This movie is on Max and is just an hour and a half so please check it out.
The third and last movie I watched this week was Fantastic Mr. Fox, which is about a fox who returns to his career of robbing farms, but without his family knowing. It goes wrong however after the farmers come after him and his community and Mr. Fox must lead them out. This was another really good movie with amazing animation especially. It’s a stop motion movie which is always cool but this one sticks out with a more unique style – it is a Wes Anderson movie after all. This is yet another movie that is really funny, in this case it comes from Mr. Fox’s son Ash and his “rivalry” with his cousin Kristofferson primarily but also just most of the characters in the movie. The movie has a good soundtrack too, borrowing mainly from the 50s and 60s and it really adds to the aesthetic. This is yet another hour and a half movie and it’s on Max right now so if you have that, I’d recommend it.
That’s all the movies I watched this week though so I hope you enjoyed it. I think I might try this format next week too because sometimes I watch a lot of movies and don’t know which one to review. Anyway, please check out the other articles on here and have a great week!
