Devos and Dawgs, formerly known as Morning Campaigners, is a bible study group, associated with Young Life. This group meets Thursday mornings before school to talk about the Bible and learn more about Jesus.
A typical meeting starts with breakfast. Students grab their breakfast tacos and find a seat in Mr. Wooley’s classroom. The Young Life leader Kyhnna Barker then begins the meeting by reading from the new testament and talking about Jesus.
“I love being able to create a relationship with Jesus,” senior Kayla Jones said. “I think it’s really important to learn about why Jesus did the amazing things that he did for us.”
Mr. Wooley is the sponsor of Devos and Dawgs. He has been involved with the program for around a year.
“I was invited to a banquet dinner in October last year and really enjoyed the things that I was hearing,” Wooley said. “I was later asked if my room could be used for the meetings and I was all for it.”
During Devos and Dawgs, students connect to develop a deeper relationship with Jesus and each other. They are given a safe environment to talk about who Jesus is and what he means to them.
“The conversations are my favorite part,” Wooley said. “Students get deep and talk about life and life’s struggles. It’s a really cool experience to be a part of.”
The Devos and Dawgs students meet twice a month to learn about the Bible. This allows them not only to get a better understanding of the Bible and Jesus, but also to have a deeper understanding of themselves.
“I hope to learn and gain a deeper understanding of the Bible and my relationship with God,” Jones said. “I want to continue to learn more about God with my friends that I have made through this experience.”
The meetings for the rest of the semester are on Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 2 Nov. 30. The meetings are open to all Bulldogs.
