Recently, a BBQ team has emerged in the school and have been going strong for the time they’ve been around. So far, the team has gained a really great staff that cooks amazing meals with beef, beans, chicken, and even desserts.
“Starting this team gives these kids something to look forward to, build character, build leadership skills,” said Ms. Samantha Guajardo.
There’s even competitions for the BBQ team to participate in around Texas.
“There’s a state competition later this year and I really hope we can make it there,” said desserts leader Hanna Wolfard.
The BBQ team of course provides a great opportunity to cook too and use old recipes or create new ones.
“I do beans. I really enjoy it, I used a family recipe from before my great grandparents were alive so I’m glad to keep it going,” said beans leader Diego Rodriguez.
The BBQ team has provided a lot of social opportunities for a lot of people and time to connect with others.
“Being with some of my closest friends, it’s a fun time when we’re there just relaxing, what more can you ask for,” said Ozzie Salinas.
The BBQ team is being led by FFA sponsors who hope to emphasize the great foods that can be made.
“It really puts that farm to table concept and honestly, and it is a really fun way to say I can eat my homework,” said Ms. Samantha Guajardo.
