Senior Angelik Torbert has traveled all around the world doing missionary work and is now spreading the word of God with other Christian teens through their Christian club, “Bridge the Gap,” which hosts numerous Christian-based events, most recently “See you at the Pole” this past Wednesday.
God has always been a partof Angelik’s life. The daughter of two evangelical missionaries, Torbert traveled all around the world with her family of six spreading the word of God. The summer before her junior year, a series of unanticipated occurrences that Torbet characterizes as “destined by God” led her to attend Summer Creek eventually creating Bridge the Gap with fellow Christian students, senior Matthew Aguilar, sophomore Angela Gil-Lopez, senior Abigail Morin and junior Lexi Allgard.
Torbert shared her tales of her travels, describing what it was like to be a young missionary exploring the world and connecting with people via her faith. Almost all of Torbert’s childhood was spent in Uruguay. Torbert also spent time in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Peru.
“One thing I love about missions is that we live with the people. We get to live like them. If they sleep on the floor, then we sleep on the floor. If they eat fish in the morning, then we eat fish in the morning,” Torbert said.
Before the sun had even come up on Sept. 27, members of Bridge the Gap, educators and enthralled students gathered around the school’s American flag for an event called “See you at the Pole” to pray together. The mood was tranquil. As the flag was hoisted, group leaders took turns offering prayers for the nation, their teachers, their friends and Summer Creek High School.
“See you at the Pole is a national student-led event. It’s for everyone. It’s for parents, grandparents, pastors, teachers, students, anyone who wants to participate and pray for the school and give thanks for our nation,” Torbert said.
Students who attend Bridge the Gap meetings, are made to feel welcome by playing games, reading the Bible and splitting into smaller
groups to pray for one another.
“Our main focus is to be available to listen to make relationships with the people who come and be available to pray for those who need it and to be bold in everything we do,” Torbert said.
Every Thursday, after school, Bridge the Gap holds meetings at the Air Force LGI. This group of passionate Christian teens is committed to spreading the word of God and encouraging other young people to develop their spirituality. All are welcome.

This is so wonderful!! It just brings joy to my heart to see younger people answering the call and being a light to this world leading other students and even teachers to offer up prayers for their school and this nation. It’s very needed in this current day and I just pray that you all continue on this path advancing the kingdom!
