The newest bulldog is a familiar face, who has been walking the hallways and supporting SCHS students for years. Ms. Donna Sharp, a former substitute teacher, has now moved into a permanent position of Dual Credit Coordinator.
“I originally came on as a substitute as a trial run to see if I wanted to teach high school,” Sharp explained. “I fell in love with it and knew I wanted a permanent position.”
The position focuses on teamwork to build student success. Sharp works closely with Dr. Mahony, Ms. Green, Ms. Bernal, and Ms. Haddicks to ensure students are aware of the opportunities they have after high school.
Sharp has an extensive background in the dual credit field, since she went through the college process, and now she is going through the same process as a parent.
“I felt like my background was a win-win for this position,” Sharp said.
Sharp’s main responsibilities include making sure students are enrolled in the correct classes and making sure that payments are made on time. However, her duties do not end there. Sharp builds strong relationships with the students, and ensures they are aware of the opportunities they have after they leave SCHS. She assists with scholarships, college applications, military applications, trade schools, and other non-collegiate paths.
“I love connecting with the kids and being able to help them on their journey,” Sharp said.
This year is incredibly special for Sharp, since her daughter Gracie, is a senior.
“It’s incredibly special to be on the same campus as Gracie for her last year,” Sharp said. “I love knowing that she is just right down the hallway. It’s sentimental.”
Sharp wants to provide every student with “a launching pad”. Not all students know what opportunities are in store for them after high school. She wants to be an encouragement, a safe space, and help as much as she can.
“A lot of students don’t know what’s next after high school,” Sharp said. “I want to be that encouragement and show them that they can do anything if they put their mind to it.”
