As the Girls Volleyball season comes to end and playoffs come into view, we look back at the 2023 season and all the excitement it brought to their fanbase. There’s many questions when discussing this volleyball team. How was their record this year? Are there any stars leaving? Did they win district?
The Bulldogs had a great season. They finished 3rd in district with a 11-3 record and made the playoffs with a 25-17 overall record. The 3 most influential players are Aspen Maxwell, Taylor Larkin, and Kamiryn Edmonds, 3 of the 7 seniors. Although the seniors lost on Oct. 24 senior night, they were undefeated when playing at home with a previous record of 8-0 before they lost to Atascocita. The Bulldogs had many win streaks this year, making their biggest streak 6 games. To win 6 games in a row is not easy and is extremely impressive. To go more in depth about this roster, we start off with senior Aspen Maxwell. The star is committed to the University of Missouri and is leaving Summer Creek with a mark on the court. She added another accolade to her trophy case this season, winning Houston Chronicle Athlete of the Week.
“This shows that my hard work is being recognized, and my team’s ability to overcome certain obstacles paid off,” Maxwell said.
As Aspen graduates, her younger sister Ivy Maxwell will be entering her junior year. The multi sport athlete Madison Thomas also graduates this year. After volleyball playoffs she will be competing in hurdles. Taylor Larkin is committed to Harvard and is planning to play college volleyball there. Kamiryn Edmonds, who previously made it on the First team All district last year, is looking forward to making it again. The whole squad is loaded and full of talent from seniors to freshmen.
In conclusion, the Bulldogs are winding down the regular season and preparing themselves for a state championship run. Despite last year’s loss they are looking forward to going all the way. With the talent, coaches and even fan base, it sure is possible.
