Although it may seem like the school year is just getting started, students at Summer Creek High school are already over a quarter of the way through the year. To some students that means a quarter closer to summer. To some students that means a quarter closer to Christmas. To Seniors, this means a quarter closer to graduation.
With graduation approaching, a new question arises: What are seniors’ plans after graduating? Even more, where do the Seniors of Summer Creek High School wish to attend college? And what do they plan to major in?
Senior Mackenzie Bennett has been accepted into UT Austin and wants to major in Environmental Science. She wants to balance her desire to make an impact on the world, all while having a steady career.
“I want to make a real change and have a stable career when I’m older,” Bennett said.
Dailynn Jiminez is another current Senior at Summer Creek and she plans to attend Texas State University, majoring in Marketing.
“I’ve always wanted to go into corporate and with this career path I can still be a little bit creative while still making good money,” Jiminez said.
“I’m excited for the freedom and new experiences in college,” Jiminez added. “I love the campus and am so excited for the opportunities that I will hopefully find while there!”
In addition to UT and Texas State, the land of the Aggies will also be receiving several Summer Creek students this year. Taylor Lindsey is a Summer Creek High school senior, and will be attending Mays Business school at Texas A&M.
For as long as she can remember, A&M has always been a part of her life.
“My family are huge Aggies, which is why I want to go,” Lindsey said. “After seeing my dad start his own company, I decided to focus on business because I think it’s vital to learn about the industry and because I want to run my own company when I’m older.”
While most seniors are eager to move forward into this next stage of life, many common worries are shared. Jiminez discusses her worries for college, aligning with thousands of other teens across the nation.
“I’m definitely super stressed about paying for college,” Jiminez said. “I’m also scared about being away from my parents. As exciting as it will be to have freedom, having full responsibility for myself is terrifying.”
“I will definitely miss my friends the most,” she adds. “I love being able to see them every day. Also leaving theatre behind will be really sad because I’ve been doing it for so long.”
Although major life adjustments such as college will come with inevitable difficulties, new opportunities, relationships, and experiences are awaiting the Seniors of Summer Creek High School’s Class of 2024, in college and beyond.
