As the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year is winding down, seniors are crossing an important benchmark. Not only are they almost halfway through senior year, but they are less than six months away from graduating. With that in mind, the class of 2024 reflects back on their favorite and most challenging class taken at The Creek.
Senior Ava Pullins’ favorite class was Medical terminology with Mrs. Johnson.
“It was really interesting, and she made it engaging,” Pullins said.
“I learned a lot and had a lot of fun,” Pullins said. “She explained so much about the body system and how it works, and the anatomy, and also learning about the terms and how the words come together was really cool.”
Pullins attributes this class, along with her experiences in Summer Creek’s Health Clinical Classes, to solidifying her interest in healthcare. Pullins also reflects on her most challenging class taken at Summer Creek, Physics OnRamps.
“I don’t know why I took it, it’s not what I want to do,” Pullins said. “The tests were really hard, and I’m not a physics person, I’m not a math person.”
Pullins is not the only senior who struggled in Physics OnRamps. Senior Alejandro Fernandez was challenged in the class as well. Fernandez wants to be a mechanical engineer, and Physics is a required course for his future degree plan.
“I surprisingly did pass with a high B but it still killed me,” Fernandez remarked. “It made me stay up till 2 in the morning every weekend.”
My favorite class I’ve ever taken was probably Algebra 2,” Fernandez said. “I really like Algebra 2 because I like math. I’m very into math, and it definitely has impacted what I want to do in life. I’m going to go into mechanical engineering and math is a big part of it. It was with my teacher Mr. Porter. I really liked him. He was really cool.”
While Fernandez enjoys math, Senior Soriya Andrew would likely disagree. The hardest class she has ever taken at Summer Creek High School was AP calculus BC. While most seniors take AP Calculus as a senior, Andrew took the class as a junior. Additionally, Andrew took the advanced version of Calculus, AP Calc, BC.
“I don’t want to say I hate math, but it (AP Calculus BC) was pretty rough for me,” Andrew said. “It was just the content. I couldn’t really grasp it as well because I also had trouble in Pre-calculus too. I had to study everyday. I studied for at least an hour If I didn’t have anything to do. I also had step practice so I didn’t really have much time to study.”
Andrew’s favorite class was ASL, as she likes the visual aspect of the class, and that she can communicate without talking.
Altogether, Summer Creek boasts a group of ambitious and hardworking students, ready to learn and grow from challenging classes.
