Paw Pals has done an extremely successful job at giving Summer Creek special needs students equal opportunity as the general students. The SCHS Paw Pals organization has done a significant job to the Special Education program. Paw Pals has become not only volunteers to the special educated students but also good friends.
“I’m better friends with some of those kids than general education students, just because I spend so much time with them,” Senior Paw Pals President Rheagan Schneider said. “They’re honestly just a kind and loving group of kids.”
Paw Pals has not only been a good experience but also something that has led to good friendships. Within such a big school, it is important that these groups of students feel acknowledged. Paw Pals not only makes them feel acknowledged, but also accepted and respected.
Paw Pals is planning to host a prom event, field day, as well as many other events. They are also planning a Christmas event on Dec 1. These events play a positive role in many of the students’ lives.
Paw Pals was established before COVID but after the pandemic, a lot was changed. COVID affected plenty of parts of Paw Pals but that never discouraged their feelings for the club. They have advertised and gained many new additions and are striving to add more.
This club provides multiple opportunities for students that would like to further their experience in the Special Education field. Paw Pals is playing a large role in training the students for future instances.
“It teaches the students how to work together as a team, and be able to organize, coordinate different things,” Paw Pals sponsor Special Education teacher Sherri Fielder said. “These are the skills that they’re going to need to have outside of the classroom for future activities.”
