Summer Creek students along with HAAM (Humble Area Assistance Ministries) volunteered in the empty stocking toy drive, during HAAM’s season of sharing. Gifts were donated from members of the community to families in need. HAAM created a store for families to come in and pick out gifts for their children.
Fill the bus gives those who don’t have the opportunity to purchase gifts for their children the ability to put gifts under the Christmas tree. HAAM aids families who can’t afford gifts, as well as children who are in institutions that don’t have the financial means to provide Christmas presents for the children in their care. This is a special event that brings the entire community together.
“It was so special to give christmas gifts around the area to those struggling and to spread christmas cheer,” senior volunteer Rhett Marzetta said. “It is important to allow families in need to feel the same joy that we do.”
Student representatives from sports teams and fine arts programs were chosen to help move and deliver toys from the participating schools to a church where HAAM is located. Once everything was unloaded, volunteers wrapped presents to be delivered to the children. The event lasted from 8am to 12:30pm.
“The environment and mood was amazing,” Marzetta said. “I would definitely do it again if it meant spreading cheer.”
The volunteers spent time together while listening to Christmas music. While having fun, they are also leaving a huge impact on the community.
“It was so inspiring knowing that what we were doing was going to impact so many lives,” Marzetta said.
