Summer Creek’s cheer team makes an incredible achievement by being one of three high school teams in Humble ISD to be a state finalist. The team has shown immense growth and plans to do better as the years pass by.
“In practice, we really try to bring that team bonding and fun aspect into our routine,” senior cheer captain Tamia Gordon. “When someone is hurt or down, we always aim to uplift and reassure them that it’ll be okay. We are a family.”
The cheer team has created impeccable bonds within each other, bonds that will last a lifetime. A team is nothing without relationships that build onto the fun. Winning is one thing but having memories to look back on is another. These bonds definitely bring to the team chemistry that is shown on and off the mat.
Seeing as this is their second year in a row making it to state, the girls have done amazing. The coaches and girls have worked incredibly hard, they put their best effort forward and it definitely paid off. They scored very well and did everything that was expected of them while having fun.
“It’s honestly very rewarding, coming from being a state finalist my junior year, I already knew what was at stake, ” Gordon said. We put our blood, sweat, and tears into that routine and it was extraordinary to be a part of that.”
For many girls, this is their last year competing as they move on to the next phases in their life. With this being their last year, the girls have put so much work into this routine. They also have put in work off of the mat, to be good leaders and role models.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better team to compete with for my final year of high school,” senior captain Kamryn Hendon said. “Every girl on the mat works extremely hard and it definitely shows as you watch our routine. I took in every moment on the road to state & our other comps knowing that it was my last.”
