Where a passion for plants meets curious minds, the Botanical Society sprouted from the collective enthusiasm of plant enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned plant lover or only recently developing a love, the Botanical society welcomes students with open arms!
The Botanical Society has tons of ideas to encourage community and learning experiences for their members, including beautifying the school, creating a butterfly garden at the West Lake Middle School campus, plant swap events where students can learn to propagate and grow plants, and take field trips to places such as the Japanese Gardens and Natural Science Museum at Hermann Park.
The first Botanical Society meeting was held on Tuesday, January 23rd, here’s what you missed!
Kicking off the first Botanical Society meeting, a warm welcome was extended to newcomers with thoughtfully fitting plant-based snacks. The meeting commenced with introductions from the esteemed officers: President Kim Nguyen, Vice President Sophia Nguyen, Secretary Hanna Husinat, Social Manager Tristan Constantino, Treasurer Chloe Ballard and Sponsor Mrs. Padgett who passionately articulated the society’s objectives. These encompass a commitment to enhancing the school’s aesthetic appeal, fostering sustainability, promoting plant education, and delving into the fascinating realms of botany. Adding a delightful touch, new members engaged in a “What Plant Are You?” quiz, injecting enthusiasm and a sense of camaraderie into the gathering. The meeting laid the foundation for a community devoted to the appreciation and exploration of the plant kingdom.
