Summer Creek continues adding to the fun Homecoming tradition by starting on the decorations for the hall houses. The class’ student council members reached out to each class to gather students to help decorate on Oct. 20.
“Homecoming house decor setup days provide a great opportunity for students and officers to bond,” student body president Tressa Jackson said. “Working together on decorating fosters teamwork, creativity, and a sense of unity as they prepare for the big week ahead.”
The student council has planned a lot for the setup days. The class officers have joined together for each grade to choose themes and made Amazon wish lists for each class to send out to the students. Each grade has a different theme and they participate in a friendly competition between each other. The themes are: “Down Memory Lane”- 12th, “Inside Out”-11th, “Haunted Hoco”-10th, and “Alice in Wonderland”-9th.
“We chose the Inside Out theme because it represents the various emotions that high schoolers go through,” junior class president Maya Triche said. “A key point of our house decor is the memory wall to symbolize even through all of the emotions we’ve gone through over the years, we still have great memories.”
The fun competition between the classes really adds to the spirit. Being so focused on winning brings the classes together and joins together for a common cause. Many students love the feeling of winning against their classmates.
“Class of 26 won last year with our “Viva Las Vegas” theme, where we decked out our halls with fun Vegas and casino decorations,” Triche said. “So we are ready to see how our theme comes together this year. I’m pretty confident that we can win again.”
Homecoming remains to be lighthearted and spirited throughout the state. From Mums to a regular Texas game.
“This also helps everyone get excited and eager for the week which helps raise our school spirit in general for the homecoming game,” student body vice president Jessica Nguyen said. “Homecoming is already a big annual event within Texas so decorating just brings what is needed to the tradition of things.”
