Students anticipated their University of Texas early decisions the evening of January 15. Early action applicants have been waiting on the important email ever since they submitted their application back in October.
“Everyone was excited to open their decisions. There’s just kind of an anticipation aspect of it that is unlike any other school,” senior Brynn Lipham said.
The excitement, however, did not reach many applicants, as the majority of the seniors got hit with an unofficial decision deferral. Because many seniors had expected to see an immediate response after opening their student portal, various students felt down.
“I’m top six percent, so auto admit, but I still got deferred,” senior Guarav Gupta said. “It really upset me because it was a struggle trying to balance school, band, and college applications. So it was frustrating seeing all that effort basically not matter since they pushed it a month back to regular decisions.”
On the other hand, some other students did receive the confetti popped congratulations screen as they logged into their status portal.
“I feel like most of the acceptance had to do with my major because history is not a competitive major compared to computer science or engineering, but I feel proud regardless,” senior Celia Worden said.
Now, all that’s left is another anxious waiting game until February for the senior applicants.
“I could barely wait until January and now I need to wait another month. It’s so frustrating but on the upside, I’ll now be able to see what my decision is along with other friends that applied regular decision,” senior Madeleine De Leon said.
