All students benefit from Paw Pals

Paw Pals is a student organization that connects the special education and general student population through special events during the year. This organization was originally called “best buddies” before Covid-19. Ms. Fielder decided to bring it back this year in the form of Paw Pals. It is highly beneficial to both parties to have general education students involved with the special education students and the department’s activities.

Junior Rheagan Schnieder, one of Paw Pals presidents says, “The mission of paw pals is to help plan activities for the students in the special education department, as well as, give each special education student a buddy or friend that they can rely on all year.”

There are many activities planned for this year. These include pumpkin carving, integrated athletic tournaments, field day and prom. In the beginning of the school year, each student in the special education department is paired with a buddy from the general student population. This buddy is someone who the special education student can rely on all year.

Junior Maddison Whittaker, the social media specialist, elaborates. “This school year everyone was assigned their own ‘pal.’ We do this so they have someone to bond with over the school year.”

Sophomore Jason Corno, Schnieder’s buddy explains, “Rheagan is my best friend. I am just so grateful for her. She helps me with everything.”

Everyone is welcome to join this organization. All that needs to be done to get involved is to simply attend the meetings. This organization is truly special and brings happiness to both the special education students and their pals. For more information, contact the presidents, Rhegan Schenider and Mason Krebs.
