The “Run the Distance for Kylie” inaugural event was held on Saturday, Jan. 7, in Generation Park. Kylie Pope, also known as KC tragically died in an accident on her family farm in 2021.

This race was different from a traditional 5K. This event was designed to commemorate Kylie’s last run of 3.90 miles. Both races of 3.90 miles and a 1K were held.

“Being at the run felt so pure,” said Kylie’s cousin, sophomore Lorin McComb, after the race. “I loved seeing everyone there and I know she would have been so happy to see all of her loved ones there.”

All of the proceeds go to this scholarship fund that was created by this event.

“I knew I wanted to go to the run to do it for her,” junior Madilynn Reilly, a close friend of Kylie’s, said. “It meant a lot that I’m able to run for her and honor her as an athlete. Supporting her meant that I got to support the legacy she left behind. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.”

This event was extremely important and heartwarming. Kylie will always be remembered and deep in the hearts of the Summer Creek community.
