Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we’re back!
I hope everyone had a great summer full of really hot heat, really strange rain, and a bunch of movies because there were a lot of those this summer. Across the Spider-Verse, The Flash, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and today’s movie, Barbie.
For a brief synopsis, Barbie is about the titular doll going to the real world after she encounters problems with her life in Barbie World. That is really vague but honestly I don’t want to spoil much. Time to get on with the actual review though.
The first thing I want to mention about this movie is that it has amazing music! They’ve got all the great artists on here: Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Tame Impala, and even Ryan Gosling. I’ve added a couple of the songs to my playlist because they’re honestly really good, especially I’m Just Ken, I’ve almost memorized all the lyrics because it is such a good song!
Speaking of Ken, the movie has amazing performances, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling especially. They’re both just so good at what they do. Margot Robbie is amazing at both the comedy and dramatic parts. Ryan Gosling excels at the comedy parts; he definitely brings the Ken-ergy!
That reminds me of another thing, too. This movie is definitely a comedy but with a strong message. Now this isn’t a bad thing by any means. I think it works really well. The comedy really works, like reeeeaaally works, like all the jokes hit! There’s a joke about the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League that may have been the hardest I’ve laughed in a theater. The message or messages are all really good ones and I think are delivered really well. They aren’t really cryptic either and aren’t really hidden at all which I think is a plus.
It’s a really great movie and you need to go see it because it is just so amazing.
My rating of the movie is a Ken out of Ken.
