From Drama Club to Student Council, our school is full of clubs that many students don’t even know exist. Clubs can be a great way to get involved at school, make friends and build your resume.
Student Council is a great place to start for students looking to be involved at school. Joining is easy. Search “Summer Creek High School Student Council Revtrak,” to pay your membership dues and come on Sept. 19 to the next meeting. STUCO meets on the third Tuesday of every month in the Air Force LGI. Members can attend either the morning meeting at 6:45 a.m. or after school meeting at 3 p.m. All members complete service hours and serve the school and community. Student Body Officers lead each meeting and students split up into different committees of service. Committees include community service, pride and patriotism, energy and environment, and more. Students complete service projects in their committees and have lots of fun.
If you are looking for a friendly and caring group of individuals, joining Young Life is the way to go. This Christian organization teaches people about the importance of having a relationship with Jesus all while enjoying fellowship with other Bulldogs.
“You don’t have to do anything to really join,” said senior Kayla Jones. “You can just go to one of our club meetings Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:07 p.m. at Summer Creek Baptist Church in front of the school. And then just come and hang out.”
On Monday meetings, students hang out, play games, and then read scripture. Wednesdays involve a deeper dive into scripture and discussion. Additionally, meetings on late arrival Thursdays will be held in room 1703 later on in the school year.
For any student interested in politics or current events, SPEC is a great club to join. SPEC is a student-run organization that stands for Social Political Environmental Club.
Senior Jolie Leyva, co-founder of SPEC, discussed the club.
“We debate and discuss a variety of topics, such as decriminalizing drugs, gender roles, and racial discrimination,” said Leyva. “We are a student-led club that offers students a safe place to express their opinions.”
The interest meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, in Mr. Andrew McCorkle’s room. Meetings are typically held every other Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m.
For anybody looking for a caring community of unique individuals, drama club is a great place to go. Members have lots of fun, regardless of their experience in theatre. Mrs. Jillian Johnson is one of three theatre teachers and talks about the importance of drama club for its members.
“We help them feel cared for,” Johnson said. “They get to have a good time, whether it’s on stage or backstage. We’re somewhere where we don’t judge people.”
Additionally, anybody can join drama club anytime. There is a QR code to scan on the theatre callboard in the fine arts hallway, which gets you on the drama club email. Drama club also has social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
“There are many ways to get involved and see what we’re doing,” Johnson said. “We go on trips, we do shows, and all of that information gets sent out through our emails and our social media.”
The Creek is a diverse community with many different clubs and activities. Find a club that interests you, and make your mark, Bulldogs.
