As the school year starts off great, Summer Creek High School is making a mark by fostering an atmosphere of compassion and understanding with a special emphasis on mental health awareness.
A dedicated table stood at the front of the cafeteria to symbolize the school’s commitment to nurturing the mental well-being of its students. The table featured an array of resources aimed at supporting students’ mental health. The displayed information encouraged students to be engaged and take proactive steps towards their well-being, providing helpline numbers for immediate assistance if needed. However, the table’s significance extends beyond its serious intent; it also embraces the notion of fun and relaxation. A stack of engaging word puzzles and a corner of showcased intricate coloring pages was set as a stress relief activity.
The commitment to mental health awareness doesn’t end at that lunch table. Our school has taken a step further to integrate support directly into students’ daily lives. The back of student IDs now carry resources for those in need. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and a Crisis Text Line have been written on there, ensuring that help is within arm’s reach, even in the most challenging moments.
This action speaks volumes about the school’s involvement and genuine care for its students’ well-being. By placing these essential resources at the forefront, Summer Creek High School sends a powerful message: that the mental health of its students is not just a priority, but a deeply embedded value in its community.
“Mental health should be implemented in school so students feel like they are not alone and so people can get the help they need,” Ms. April Wilson said. “Of course to wind down you could also try many activities that can help.”
Wilson also recommends detaching from social media and getting good exercise.
As the school year unfolds, the mental health awareness initiatives serve as a testament to their dedication to holistic education. Through practical resources and creative outlets, the school is paving the way for a brighter and more compassionate future for all its students.
