A new volleyball season means a new batch of players in their last year of high school sports. As a part of this group, senior volleyball players Anika Frausto, Taylor Larkin and Kam Edmonds are looking to do even better than they did last year.
“My hope for the team this year is to win first in districts again, make it past the third round of playoffs, and hopefully make it and win state,” said Frausto, captain, about the current season.
Volleyball also has a big impact on high school as a whole and has greatly changed the way these seniors look at it.
“It’s been really good and helped me a lot,” Edmonds said. “It gets me to do new things and be not just a student but a student athlete.”
Volleyball is a team sport too and has played into the players’ social lives in a big way.
“Volleyball has affected high school in a positive way because [you’re] surrounded by a group of girls that you grow to be best friends with and having support around you that you can rely on,” said Larkin about her team.
High school is a learning experience too and volleyball has the same impact on these seniors.
“One thing I learned from volleyball is to be a good teammate and a good friend overall. It’s more than a sport, it’s being there for your friends and your teammates,” said Frausto.
