Thursday, August 31st marked the first “Mornings with Mahony” meeting. These recurring meetings continue the tradition of allowing parents access to the principal and promoting transparency regarding school and district initiatives. The main objective of this program is to connect, inform and address.
“The purpose of these meetings is to connect with the community,” Mahony said. “A lot of people don’t know the great things that are happening at Summer Creek. I want to promote our school and keep parents informed about the happenings.”
Before the meetings, parents can submit a Google form stating what topics they would like to discuss. The meeting’s topics were bond projects, expansion and construction.
“I hope these meetings create a stronger bond between the Summer Creek community,” Mahony stated. “I want everyone to see the total view of SCHS and the great things that are happening, not just what they hear from the press.”
This meeting had a total turnout of 15 parents. Mahony hopes to grow this number.
“I wasn’t sure how many parents were going to attend since it was the first meeting of the school year,” Mahony said. “We are working to accommodate to as many work schedules as possible. We are hoping as the school year progresses and the meetings are seen as helpful, our attendance will rise. We want to give all members an opportunity to connect with the SCHS community.”
Mahony and the administration have thought about implementing a student-focused meeting. However, many students have these conversations everyday.
“Students are not shy about coming up to me and talking,” Mahony joked. “I talk to students everyday in the hallways and at lunch. They discuss their concerns or simply tell me about their day. I think those informal conversations are super important. Connecting with students is one of my favorite parts about my job.”
