The blood drive has come back to Summer Creek and is hosted by HOSA yet again. It happens on Sept. 6 and 7, but before you give blood, there are some very important things you should know.
“One pint of blood saves three lives. We were shown a picture of two girls. One had sickle cell anemia. The other had leukemia. They’re both conditions that need blood transfusions to help,” said junior Maryanne Madung.
There’s also very important rules about the requirements for being able to give blood.
“Girls have to be at least 120 pounds and guys have to be at least 135 pounds to give blood,” said junior Hailey Dowell.
Another thing is that at this blood drive, you can get rewards from giving blood.
“If you give blood you can get orange socks. And if you’re a senior and you give blood two times this year, you get a [graduation] cord,” said junior Hailey Dowell.
Giving blood has a really big impact on everyone from around you to around the world.
“The importance is being able to give back to our community in a way that truly does help,” said senior Savannah Metoyer.
There is still some time left to sign up during all lunches, so make sure to visit their table just outside of the cafeteria on Main Street. It would really help out. So, if you’re willing to give blood, drop by there.
