As September begins, Summer Creek is acknowledging and appreciating all of the hard work that Humble ISD has put into Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Every school in the district was asked to motivate their kids to wear all gold for Gold Out on Sept. 15.
“Go Fight Win is an important cause because there are many children diagnosed with cancer everyday in our country,” said volunteer and parent of a childhood cancer survivor Amanda Hack. “Most people don’t realize how prevalent childhood cancer is in our community and around. That’s why we wanted to raise awareness so we could find a cure for this disease.”
To help with this initiative, Humble ISD and three other local charities are selling gold “Go Fight Win” shirts to raise money for the cause. Summer Creek’s Student Council is also striving to contribute as much as they can while also informing and motivating students to support this cause.
“We are working to put together baskets that will be given to kids that are in the hospital that are affected by cancer,” said Mrs. Stephanie Lopez, Student Council sponsor. “We also plan to fully advertise and participate in buying a shirt.”
At Summer Creek, we will also celebrate on Sept. 29 with a pep rally ahead of the game against Humble High School. To get into the pep rally, students must have a gold shirt or gold wristband to show their spirit towards the “Gold Fight Win” campaign.
“We’re not just doing the pep rally for ‘Go Bulldogs!’ We’re supporting something beyond us, beyond Summer Creek,” said Mrs. Teresa Aranda, pep rally and Starlettes sponsor. It’s nationwide and Humble ISD is doing it really big. I’m just really happy that we get to contribute.”
Along with Mrs. Aranda’s participation in the pep rally, she is also having the Summer Creek Starlettes dance with little girls all in gold to support the month.
“I’m gonna have the little girls fill the field with gold,” Mrs. Aranda said.
Summer Creek’s pep rally committee is working very hard not only to make this pep rally a success but also make sure that it is something enjoyable for all students. Please show your support and wear your gold on Sept. 29 for Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
