Students, faculty and families witnessed the volleyball team take on Shadow Creek High School on Aug. 20 to start off their season. All three teams did not disappoint in keeping the crowd on their feet while watching the very intense game.
“The atmosphere was extremely electric, there were a lot of students in the student section cheering,” sophomore Torie Turner said. “Also, the players put on a show and had everybody tuned in on the game.”
Although varsity had a tough loss, 1-3, in the Battle of the Creeks, they are putting it behind them.
The team is still trying to find their footing after many of the players from last year graduated last year, including Aspen Maxwell, Taylor Larkin and Madison Thomas. Some of their star players now are junior Ivy Maxwell, who recently committed to Alabama A&M, and senior Morgan Andrew. These athletes are committed to lead and guide the team to wins in the future. Both of these ladies are considered the veterans on the team because they both have been on varsity for three years.
This year, there have been five new additions to the team. Seniors Emani Bean and Jasen Smith and juniors Makayla Smith, Kenna Harris and Lalia Walker.
“I am looking forward to going to district and state and winning them both this season,” junior Laila Walker said.
Games are every Tuesday and Friday for all three teams and many loyal fans have been coming for the past couple years to cheer on the teams, including senior Katherine Currier and junior Semaj Lewis.
“Volleyball games are super fun and energetic over time, it has become my favorite sport to go and watch,” Currier said. “I really am looking forward to watching the Bulldogs play Kingwood and Atascocita.”
There have been new faces in the stands this year cheering on the Bulldogs too, such as junior Kaylah Parks in her first year at Summer Creek.
“I feel like Summer Creek has the best student section, environment and support,” Parks said. “[Better] than anything I have experienced from the school I transferred from.”
With the season just now starting, the Bulldog Nation would love for everyone to come out and support our volleyball team at all home and away games to cheer them on as they take the floor.
