On Aug. 24, the football team kicked off the season with “Dads and Decals” to get the team’s spirits high for this upcoming season.
The event involved a hot meal from Italiano’s and time for the sons to bond with their parents, which is exactly what the team needed before leading into their first game. The students and their parents placed decorative decals on each of the varsity player’s helmets, with the help of the coaches. Although not every member’s parent was present, the coaches made sure that each player felt included within the event. They did their part by helping students through confusion over the helmets or even just to share a good laugh.
“All of our Varsity athletes are welcome to come,” Varsity Football Coach James Harper said. “If an athlete’s parents cannot attend then they are welcome to bring anyone in their place. And finally if that doesn’t work, then a coach will stand in with an athlete.”
Not only were the coaches a big help to this event, but so were the moms. Throughout the event, a few moms came to support their sons, and truly just enjoy themselves. They saw this as an opportunity to bond and spend more time with their sons, and the boys loved every second of it. Being able to know that their support team is huge and that they have people in their corner, especially their mom, is so beneficial to them.
“I absolutely love the idea, this event makes memories and creates a bonding experience between fathers/mothers and sons as well as the team and coaches,” mother of varsity players, Tre Caroll and Tyson Joiner, said. “It was a beautiful time and even though I was a fill-in for my husband because he could not make the event, I feel like I just may peek in next year as well.”
The school is beyond excited to see what this season has in store for the school, and even more excited to collect these wins. The boys just came back from an undefeated season, and are ready to do it again, with the support of their parents and coaches.
“I’m most excited for the Shadow Creek game as the season opener, I feel as if this is the best time for us to make it known that we are coming back for the state title,” varsity football player Charles Carter said. “Shadow Creek is another highly ranked school, and if we perform well against them, we can prove to people that the state last year wasn’t a fluke. We work hard for it and put in countless hours of work to be the best.”
