On late arrival Thursdays, while most high school students are sleeping in and preparing for school, Starlette members are at Elementary schools reading to classes and sharing their knowledge.
“When I was little, I remembered big kids coming into my class to read, and it was the most exciting thing ever. I think reading to kids is important because they have someone to look up to,” senior Kaitlyn Bollom said.
Each military officer has a service project. Senior officer Clarissa Lozano chose her line to read to the elementary schools.
“I chose this service project because I really love kids, and I think it’s important to interact with them at such a young age and show them how much their community cares and supports them,” Lozano said.
But for the Starlettes, this service project is not a “chore,” but a privilege.
“Being a role model for younger kids is such a rewarding experience. I love how their faces light up whenever they see a ‘special guest’. I’m very grateful to be able to be someone that these kids can look up to,” Bollom said.
Many Starlettes seem very excited to read and potentially inspire the children.
“I’m most excited to connect with the littles and experience an exciting moment with them and hopefully inspire them to continue to read,” sophomore Peyton Moreno said.
