On senior night, while others are celebrated for the points they scored, Grace Carey is recognized for the stories she told.
Grace, the editor in chief of the yearbook, describes her passion for storytelling that started when she was younger and it only grew when she joined the Summer Creek yearbook program.
“I joined yearbook in middle school, and I really fell in love with it, and knew it was something that I wanted to pursue in high school,” she said.
In her sophomore year, she entered the room as a member of the staff and was prepared to learn and rise to the challenge.
“I started off kind of new and I slowly learned my way around,” she said. “Then I began to take charge.”
As Grace’s confidence grew, so did her leadership.
“I helped to transition the program into a larger and more dedicated program with more people,” Grace said.
Grace knew that she was destined to write and she is ready to pour her heart into her future career.
“I definitely want to do something in journalism and I plan to major in it at Baylor University,” she said.
Even though Grace is prepared to take the journalism field by storm, she knows leaving won’t be easy.
“I’m going to be really sad when I have to leave because my staff has become like family and we’re all really close,” she said.
Ultimately, Grace is ready and excited for the next stage of her life and she has the yearbook program to thank for helping her get there.
“I think I’m ready,” she said. “Summer Creek Press has taught me so much about myself, about focusing on my passions and how hard work pays off. I’m going to use those skills that I learned to help me succeed in college.”
