As the Summer Creek Girls Basketball season comes to an end, the bulldogs look back at how memorable of a run it was. From Coach Donald Ott  winning 6A Coach Of The Year, to playoffs to even McDonald’s All Americans, this season was cemented into the history books. Before the recap begins, it’s important to make sure the seniors get their recognition before signing out. These seniors are Mychie White, Torran Deterville, Joryan Harper, Kaley Witz, Janiya Murphy, Zachara Perkins, Jayda Woods and Mariyah Brown. The six ranked “DAWGS” finished their season 35-4 and 13-1 in district, placing them 1st. During this season, the two star seniors Zachra Perkins and Mariyah Brown were selected for the 2024 McDonald’s All American team.

“It’s an extreme blessing and is something Ii always wanted since I was a kid,” Perkins said.

The young sophomore point guard Kennedy Simpson assisted the DAWGS to the playoffs, and will be leading the team for two more years. The team faced one of the toughest teams in the state, the Duncanville Panthers. This was not their first time playing each other, so the stakes were extremely high. In the previous game, Summer Creek took the win, so it was no surprise that Duncanville was coming with something to prove. The game was so close, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. At the end of regulation, the  score was 31-31. Both teams were tired and wanted to win. The Panthers beat the Bulldogs in energy. Duncanville scored nine unanswered points to win 39-31. Despite the loss, everyone back in Humble was beyond proud of this season and couldn’t be more excited about what next year has in store.

“I have two more years here and each time I’ll come back stronger than I was the year before,” Simpson said.

After the loss, there were many awards announced to the Bulldogs. Congratulations to Donny Ott for winning Coach Of The Year. Congratulations to Mariyah Brown, Mychie White, Janiya Murphy, and Kennedy Simpson for being named First Team All District. Congratulations to Taiya Kikunga and Torran Deterville for being named Second Team All District. Last but not least, congratulations to District MVP Zachara Perkins. Huge accomplishments from every single Bulldog this season. Everyone cannot wait to see what 2024-25 has in store!
